Space Available Care

Non-TRICARE beneficiaries and TRICARE Select enrollees can be seen in Family Medicine or Optometry on a same-day or on a limited future (3 business day) space-available basis. Space-available (Space-A) care means that if an appointment is available and not already booked, then personnel may be seen in that appointment slot. 
 If all appointments are booked or are otherwise unavailable, then space-available patients must seek treatment in a host-nation facility, or wait and call the following duty day.  
To make an appointment please call in the morning beginning at 10:00 A.M.  At that time, any open same-day appointments will be offered to non-TRICARE affiliated personnel for a chronic medical problem or a sudden-onset (acute) medical problem. Additionally, routine appointments that are un-booked within the following three business days may also be scheduled starting at 10:00 A.M. each day.  

If you already have good reliable medical care found in our host nation's system, and it works for you, 
we recommend that you continue your care there. If you have issues accessing care in the host nation’s system, we encourage you to share your experience with us so we can help look for solutions. 

It is recommended to check with your insurance company to ensure the visit will be reimbursed. A list of local host nation providers is also available at: http://www.tricare-overseas.com/beneficiaries/resources/provider-search.

SHA Host Nation Medical Resources / Government Information: If you live in or around the Sagamihara housing area, use the following link for Sagamihara emergency medical information in the area https://www.city.sagamihara.kanagawa.jp/kurashi/kyubyo/1008444/indez.html.  This website includes a list of facilities in the area with contact information.  The website will initially bring you to the Japanese site, select the dropdown in the top right of the page and select "English" for translation to English.

Zama City host Nation Medical Resources / Government Information: If you live in or around the Zama City area, use the following link for the City's emergency medical care, medical institution phone book, health check-up and consultation information, as well as information on Japan's National Health Insurance https://www.city.zama.kanagawa.jp/www/toppage/0000000000000/APM03000.html. The website will initially bring you to the Japanese site, select "multilingual" at the top center of the page for translation to English.

Multilingual Medical Questionnaire: Should you need assistance when reaching out to local facilities the following link can assist you with translation https://www.kifip.org/medical/english/index.html. This can be a useful tool for conveying how you feel to a local facility that may not speak English.  Once on the website there is a list of medical questionnaires that you can bring with you as an additional translation tool.
